Oak Trees

The main feature of Halfpenny Field is a beautiful old Oak tree that we estimate started growing in the late 1700s, early 1800s.

We have been collecting acorns and growing oak trees from this oak for a number of years now and have approximately 75 trees in pots ranging from 1 to 5 years old.  In addition to this we have about the same number of ash trees and a selection of other trees including wild cherry, hazel, silver birch and horse chestnut all in pots, ready to plant.

These non-commercially grown trees are perfect for land-owners in our local area as the trees are local and acclimatised to the West Country weather and soil.  We have enough trees to plant a copse or even small woodland and can plant these for your, providing the necessary wood and wire protection required to protect the young saplings from rabbits and deer.

“A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.”
Greek Proverb
